German bacteriologist. It provides the fundamentals of research on infections and is considered the father of scientific bacteriology. He studied medicine at the University of Göttingen. Sometime later he abandoned the practice of his profession to devote himself to bacteriological research, led by his interest in clarifying the causes of anthrax. Koch publishes his findings in the Etiology of anthrax. After many efforts, in 1882 isolates Koch’s bacillus, which causes tuberculosis. He continues his investigations and discovers the vibrio, which causes cholera. In recognition of his scientific contributions, he receives the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1905.
