Pilot in the Korean War and was shot down on one occasion, he was also a test pilot at NASA. He entered the astronaut training program in 1952 and had his first space experience in the expedition of Gemini VIII in 1966. In 1969 he was appointed along with Aldrin and Collins to integrate the first exploration of man to the Moon. In 1969, Apollo XI took off from Cape Kennedy and three days later it entered the gravitational influence of the Moon. Asmstrong and Aldin approach the moon landing module and in the early hours of July 21, 1969, Amstrong is the first man to walk on the lunar surface.
